Since it began in 2001, CHOICE
has relied upon the efforts of a committed group of
volunteers to organize its housing initiatives for people
with disabilities. Our Board of Directors, Homeownership
Education trainers, grant writers, website developers, and
legal counsel have volunteered countless hours to the
organization, and gained a deep sense of satisfaction
knowing their efforts have opened housing opportunities for
people with disabilities.
Currently, CHOICE is especially seeking volunteers
for the following positions:
Board of Directors – there is one slot open for a
person with a disability on the
Board. Board members participate in a two hour Board meeting
each month and oversee the direction of the organization’s
major programs, develop and enforce organizational policies,
monitor income and expenses, and approve major expenditures.
Board members also volunteer to assist with programmatic
initiatives as needed.
Fair Housing Testers – persons with and without
disabilities are needed to visit rental and condominium properties throughout the Northern
Virginia area to assess their physical accessibility and to
assess whether persons with disabilities experience
discriminatory treatment. Volunteers will receive an 1-2 day
training, and will be asked to perform 1-2 visits per month.
Stipends are available and mileage expenses will be
reimbursed.
Website Designer with Section 508 Accessibility
Experience – an individual
with experience in accessible web design for persons with
disabilities is needed to convert website content into an
accessible HTML format and upload the site onto the
Internet.
