Housing Accessibility Assessment Program
CHOICE’s trained volunteers with and without
disabilities assess the accessibility of multifamily properties
for rent and for sale in Northern Virginia that were recently
built or are under construction. Armed with tape measures,
levels and a keen understanding of accessible housing design
requirements under the Fair Housing Act Amendments of 1988 and
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, these volunteers visit
properties and complete checklists to determine the extent to
which newly constructed developments are complying with
accessibility requirements. Properties that “measure up” are
featured in our Accessible Housing Registry.
If you are aware of a multifamily residential
property constructed within the last year where the
accessibility is questionable, please request an assessment by
contacting (703) 851-5257 or
choicenova@comcast.net.
If you would like to become a trained volunteer
accessibility tester, please complete the volunteer form and
check the appropriate box. We will contact you with information
about the next training opportunity.
